Popcorn for Patriots Connections

Popcorn for Patriots Connections

MAJ Jeff Borland and MSG Steve Stalder are currently deployed in Iraq. We were absolutely thrilled to receive correspondence from them regarding our Popcorn for Patriots program.

MAJ Borland indicated at soldiers from the 109th Medical Battalion Iowa Army National Guard, received and enjoyed the packages of cheese corn in mid-January. MSG Stalder emailed us to let us know that C Company 2-211th GSAB (Air Ambulance) is enjoying the popcorn as well.

MAJ Borland wrote to the Scouts who participated: “It means a lot to soldiers knowing that the people back home are behind them.” MSG Stalder added: “It is the selfless service that you have shown in sending these care packages that lets the troops know they are thought of while here in Iraq.”

My son, CAPT Joshua Brandon has served two combat tours in Iraq and earned the Silver Star. He will be deployed again this summer. I know from him how important it is for our service men and women to receive reminders that there is a world out there somewhere, and that they are appreciated.

I was lucky enough to see the outstanding Cub Scouts from Pack 200 in action packing up another load of boxes for delivery to Iraq. Doug Alberhasky (it was his idea to offer this program, by the way) and the other Council Scouting leaders present that night were absolutely the epitome of Scouting. To see these leaders interact with the Cubs, all in the name of our brave soldiers serving in harm’s way was truly awe-inspiring.

Everyone involved in the sharing of more than 900 popcorn packages should be proud to know of the moments of happiness this project to our brave soldiers overseas. All the while providing support for the Boy Scouts of America. This is, indeed, patriotism at its best!
